The detox truth: what actually helps, and what to be careful with.
The first instinct after you find lead is "how do I get it out." Here is the honest answer, before you spend money on something that does nothing, or something that makes it worse.
The part nobody selling you a cleanse will say
For most people at low, everyday exposure, the single most powerful thing you can do is remove the source. Once the lead stops coming in, the body handles the rest on its own timeline. There is no smoothie that beats cutting off the supply. The whole journey up to here was the real detox.
Remove the source first. Everything else is a distant second.
What genuinely helps the body
Feed it the minerals that compete with lead for absorption. Calcium and iron both take up the doorways lead would otherwise use, so a well-fed kid absorbs less of what they do encounter. Vitamin C helps iron along. This is real, it is cheap, and it is covered in the diet lesson.
Chelation is medicine, not a wellness routine
Chelation is a real treatment. It is for high blood lead, generally the range where a doctor is already involved, and it is done under medical supervision because the drugs carry their own risks. It is not something you do preventively or because a number scared you. If a child's blood lead is high, that is a conversation with a pediatrician, not a supplement aisle.
The "heavy metal detox" industry, plainly
Cilantro pills, zeolite powders, "binder" protocols, foot pads. Most of it is unproven for lead. Some of it is worse than nothing: heavy-metal "detox" supplements have themselves tested high for lead and other metals, because they are unregulated. You can buy a product marketed to remove lead that adds it.
If a product promises to pull heavy metals out of you, ask for the human evidence and ask if the product itself was tested. Usually neither exists.
So the honest protocol
Find the sources and remove them. Feed the body calcium and iron. If a blood test comes back elevated, see a real doctor and follow real medicine. That is the whole list. Anything past it is someone selling you fear.
