The lead test kit from Gail's table

Fluoro-Spec is a spray and a UV flashlight. Spray a surface, shine the light, and lead glows bright green. It picks up single particles of lead paint dust, which is what actually poisons a child, on floors, window sills, toys, dishes, and porch steps. No lab, no swabs to mail, no waiting. A family can run it themselves in a few minutes, and one kit covers hundreds of spots.
New Hampshire's lead program bought 100 kits for a pilot. Ohio bought 1,000. Gail has been handing them to families since 2024.

Showing a family the hazard
A report gets filed away. A window sill lighting up green in front of a parent does not. It is the part of a home visit people remember.
Leaving it behind
The family keeps the kit and checks the same spots after they clean, so they can see whether what they are doing is working.
Before the clearance visit
Contractors find the dust they missed before the wipes get taken, which means fewer failed clearances and fewer repeat trips.
The honest limits
This is a screening tool for households and for finding dust. It is not an EPA-recognized test kit for RRP contractor use, and it does not replace an XRF scan or a lab wipe when you need a number for a file. What it does is tell you where to point those.
The reagent is methylammonium bromide (CAS 6876-37-5) in isopropyl alcohol. It is flammable, keep it away from heat and out of reach of children. Full Safety Data Sheet free on request.
