×What's a Spearman correlation?
Take two different ways of ranking the same neighborhoods, ours and the state's, and ask: do they put the tracts in the same order, riskiest to safest? Spearman scores the match. 1.0 means identical order, 0 means no relationship at all.
Where this comes from. Housing age by construction decade (Census ACS 2023 5-year, table B25034), poverty (B17020), and children under 5 (B01001), pulled for every tract in Alameda County and scored with the same housing-age-and-poverty model behind our national lead-risk map, validated against measured childhood blood-lead levels in eleven states (Spearman 0.43–0.77). Method and data: the open paper. Tract boundaries stream live from the Census Bureau's TIGERweb service.
