The FDA has done extensive research and determined that for every 1 microgram of lead an adult eats per day their blood lead level will increase by .04 micrograms/dl.

Children will have a 4x higher increase, .16 micrograms/dl per microgram of lead per day consumed.

The FDA recommends the maximum level of lead for each group to be 2.2 micrograms for children and 8.8 for adults.

This is intended to cap the amount of lead in each group's blood at .35 micrograms.

No governmental or health agency is going to say there is a safe amount of lead, however there are dramatically different levels of effects from lead exposure at different levels.

A blood lead level of 5 is going to reduce IQ by around 4-5 points, a blood lead level of .5 is going to be less than a point.

A significant increased risk for ADHD comes in at 2.2 micrograms/dl, this doesn't mean every child will have ADHD who has a level above this but its shown to be significant.
