Choose a surface to test

You can use Fluoro-Spec to find lead virtually anywhere

  • If your home was built before 1978, it may contain lead-based paint—both inside and outside. As lead paint ages, it can become unstable, resulting in flaking and chipping. This can pose a serious health risk, especially for children.

  • If you eat or drink from mugs, dishes, bowls, or plates that have designs or markings on them, you may be consuming lead. Lead in the decorations of dishes can leach into food or liquid that come into contact with it. Use Fluoro-Spec to screen for these sources of lead exposure.

  • Ingesting or inhaling lead dust is the most common vector for childhood poisoning. Lead dust is normally invisible to the naked eye, making it especially dangerous. Test areas near friction surfaces, such as window sills, doors, cupboards/drawers, stairs, and painted floors. Your vacuum cleaner or dust pan/broom are also good places to check for dust.

  • Lead can contaminate water via plumbing. Test your Water Service Line if your home was built before 1988, and your plumbing fittings if your home was built before 2014.

Shine UV Light on Test Area

IMG_1409.jpg

Shine the UV light on the area/object you want to test for Lead. When UV Light shines on certain objects/surfaces, they may glow; this is called Fluorescence. Always shine the light on the area before applying the liquid to check for any pre-existing fluorescence. Lead will NEVER glow green under UV light until Fluoro-Spec liquid is applied, either with the Spray Tip Bottle or Drip Tip Bottle.

Know The Glow!

While shining the UV light on the test surface, Spray or Drip your Fluoro-Spec Liquid on the test area and watch for the green glow! When the Fluorospec-Spec Liquid contacts the surface/object, it transforms any lead present on the surface into a fluorescent compound that glows bright green under UV light.

Shine UV light on test area

Shine the UV light on the area/object you want to test for Lead.

When UV Light shines on certain objects/surfaces, they may glow; this is called Fluorescence. Always shine the light on the area before applying the liquid to check for any pre-existing fluorescence.

Pre-existing fluorescence will normally appear as blue, but can occasionally be green. This is NOT lead, as you haven't applied your Fluoro-Spec liquid to the testing area yet.

Lead will NEVER glow green under UV light until Fluoro-Spec liquid is applied, either with the Spray Tip Bottle or Drip Tip Bottle.

When the liquid contacts the surface/object, it transforms any lead present on the surface into a fluorescent compound that glows bright green under UV light.

Now that you can see the lead, you can easily eliminate the threat.
